Monkey Jump!

free game art monkey jump platformer jungle

A monkey doing what monkeys do best.

You may recognize this little guy from the Monkey Platformer Game Pack long ago. An upcoming tutorial at the raywenderlich.com blog required that the monkey be able to jump and swing on a rope to avoid enemies. It also required a repeatable background.

That means the monkey and his world can now be used for even more games!

Suggested Gameplay

Basically, the monkey must reach the end of the level and avoid the snakes and crocodiles by leaping and swinging over them on vines.

Game Pack Contents

Don’t forget that this little game pack blends perfectly with its predecessor, Monkey Platformer. If you are making a game with this art, do yourself a favor and go get that game pack too!

All of the art here is for the iPhone retina. Resize them by 50% to get the unretina versions, or use an image resizer app. Here’s what’s in this pack:

  • Repeatable background: 1920×640 pixels. Nice jungle scenery.
  • Monkey sprites! I included all the monkey sprites from the last pack, and added the jumping sprites – 4 each facing left and right. So the monkey can now stand, walk, leap, jump and swing, push something, raise his arms, and die.

So many monkeys...

  • Rope cross-section image: meant to be repeated along a spline, so that it looks like a swingable rope.
  • Two enemies: a snake and a crocodile!

They love a monkey dinner.

And here’s a mockup of our monkey hero mid-swing:

Monkey swing, monkey survive.

Once again awesome art pack Vicki! Quick question, when I setup the monkey walking animation it looks very good, but is there any possibility you could create a “running” animation for the monkey? Or perhaps by decreasing the delay it will make the monkey seem running?

  4. vwenderlich says:

Thanks! I’ll put the running animation on my list for the future – until then yes, I would recommend decreasing the delay in the walking animation.

  5. I followed your site from…reywenderlich… am using lots of your sprites in my games ,thanks xD
